Company Introduction
The Flood Company is a family-owned corporation that has been serving the painting industry for almost 150 years. Founded in 1847 in Cleveland, Ohio as a paint contracting firm, The Flood Company quickly established a reputation for its high degree of craftsmanship in painting and custom wood finishing.
Business continued to grow along with the city and the future looked very bright for Flood. Then the unthinkable happened--the Great Depression. During this bleak economic period, The Flood Company faced the same hardships as all its competitors. With limited funds both at work and at home, painting wasn't very high on anyone's list of priorities. As a result, many painting contractors went out of business. However, thanks to its secret weapon, The Flood Company wasn't among them.
What kept The Flood Company afloat was right there floating in the port of Cleveland. The large ore ships, which weren't being repainted because of costs, were quickly turning burnt orange with rust from bow to stern. While these companies were saving money on paint, they were spending more on maintenance due to the weakened condition of the ships' surfaces. And that's where Earl Flood, known for his never-say-die attitude, saw a real opportunity.
He was able to show the ships' owners how adding Penetrol from Flood to paint would stop the destructive rusting. This unique penetrating oil would help the paint bond to the metal surfaces and seal out dampness, thus solving the problem. Perhaps more importantly, adding Penetrol stretched the coverage of each gallon of paint. And considering the number of gallons needed to coat an ore ship, this was great news. In short, Penetrol saved the ore carriers money. And it saved The Flood Company's business.
Over the years, The Flood Company continued to find other exciting applications for the revolutionary properties of Penetrol. In fact, the penetrating technology behind it is responsible for most of Flood's top-selling products today, like CWF-UV Clear Wood Finish, and the longest-lasting stain on the market, Flood's Solid Color Deck& Siding Stain. It's this superior penetrating performance that's made Flood products the choice of both professional painters and exterior wood care contractors for years. And now, as more and more homeowners are discovering the secret, it's just a matter of time before the Flood name is a household word.
