HISTORY Select Product Sourcing (SPS) can trace its origins in the Republic of South Africa (RSA) back to 1974. The Britz family opened a business called Table Charm, which marketed glassware by way of direct selling (ie house parties, for example Tupperware in the USA). They were the first to introduce toughened household glassware from Europe into the RSA. The business flourished, and then they joined another group which went public in 1987. In May 1994, after 21 years in the direct selling industry, two members of the Britz family left and founded SPS. OUR PRODUCTS Primarily household glassware, both machine-made and handmade; clear glass, printed and/or decorated. Additionally we market ceramic dinnerware and mugs (porcelain, stoneware, bone china) and kitchenware such as cookware, cutlery, kitchen helpers, knives, knife blocks etc. OUR CUSTOMERS We service and supply all the major importers of glassware in the RSA, such as the retail chain stores, food service distributors, independent wholesale and retail distributors, direct selling companies and B2B (glass decorators). Currently we are negotiating orders for other Africa markets as well ( ie Angola and Gabon.) OUR SUPPLIER SPS has had experience in importing housewares from some 20 countries throughout the world. Currently we are trading with factories in Indonesia, Mexico, Poland, USA, Portugal, Netherlands, Spain and China. SPS has always enjoyed excellent supplier relationships and are able to provide them with sufficient volume to maintain exclusivity of products. HOW WE OPERATE SPS acts primarily as manufacturers representatives (indent agents) where we secure orders on behalf of our suppliers, with the goods shipped direct to our clients in full assorted container loads. Sometimes we also act selectively as distributors, importing to supply the smaller customers. Today SPS is well entrenched as a key player in the housewares business in RSA and also represents many top brands which are market leaders in many countries throughout the world. Currently we have only a few clients outside of the RSA, and one of our future goals is the expansion of our presence and business into sub-Saharan African countries. SPS has always prided itself in not purely taking and following up orders, but working with our customers and suppliers to create exclusive designs, shapes, packaging and innovative ideas geared towards fulfilling the needs of their target markets. Products offered within each of our categories are diverse. For example with glassware we offer lead crystal for the upper-end of the market, across the spectrum through to inexpensive non-branded glass for the less affluent mass market.
