Micro tunneling machines. 5. Augur boring machines or Thrust boring machines. 6. Pipe bursting machines Which machine will be used where depends on the application. The various utilities passing under the ground in any town or city are as follows : Pipes : 1. Sewerage lines. 2. Storm water lines. 3. Fresh water pipe lines. 4. Gas pipe lines. Cables : 1. Electric cables. 2. Telecom cables. 3. TV cables 4. Internet cables The various factors on which the selection of the machine depends are as follows : 1. The utility to be laid whether it is pipe or cable. 2. The diameter of the Micro tunnel required. 3. The type of the soil in which the drilling will be done. 4. The length of the shot required. 5. Whether a river crossing will be done or not etc. The limitation of trenchless technology arises only if the drilling is required to be done in the rock. Drilling in rock can also be done successfully with the help of suitable machines and by using appropriate tools for rock drilling. This tooling can be a little expensive if the rock is a hard rock xxxxx the compressive strength is more than 30,000 PSI. Hence, the cost of drilling can be a little high but the overall or total cost of making the micro tunneling remains less compared to other methods of laying utilities in rock.
