There are several species of wood used in the set. • The playing surface is a slice from a pecan tree (dark squares) with oak inlay (lighter squares). • The stand is composed of white birch (legs) and oak (top rails and cross member). • The pieces are oak (the dark side) and sassafras (the light side). The pawns were hand turned on a mini lathe and the back rows were all hand carved. • The weapons are hand made using electrical wire and pluming tubing. There are two stools that acompany the set i have completed one of the two will finish the other shortly.
