About Me My name is Oliver Silveira and I have been designing one-of-a-kind pieces of contemporary art jewelry for a number of years.I have a life long interest in gem stones dating back to my childhood hunting for bits of obsidian on my grandfather’s ranch in Northern California. I hold a BA degree from St. Mary’s College and a strong background in the advertising agency industry that provided an appreciation of color and balance which I like to apply to my jewelry designs. In addition, in 1977, I attended the Ultra Tec Faceting School located in Santa Ana, California and learned the art and science of faceting my own gem stones. More recently I have spent several years studying under Master Gold Smith, Mr. Hugh Power who teaches gem setting techniques at the Richmond Art Center, Richmond, California to round out my knowledge of proper jewelry fabrication.My keen interest is to provide distinctive pieces of jewelry art for my customers. I take a minimalist approach with my designs centering each piece around the beauty of the stone while using fine silver and gold to highlight rather than overwhelm the gems. When it comes to selecting gem stones I tend to pick small faceted gems that are well cut to create maximum brilliance. In many cases I group these bright little gems together in color matched sets creating a blaze of color. My favorite stones are sapphire, tourmaline, aquamarine and topaz because these have the greatest range of color and the greatest monetary appreciation potential when set in fine jewelry. Often I find larger facet rough at attractive prices then I cut these stones myself passing the savings to my clients.
