With the objective of reducing the use of hazardous chemicals, Directive 2002/95/EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment was adopted on 27 January 2003. The Directive will become effective on 1 July 2006.  While requirements for this Directive are still being finalized, the following information is designed to provide an introduction to the Directive and assist retailers and manufacturers who are preparing to meet its requirements.
