The crafts has a long traditional, originally being the first step in another craft the ornamentation of the leather by the gold, silver or silk thread called &＃39;tilla work". Originally okair saaz was done on a thin piece of goat height instead of paper. Only one piece of leather wasEngraved in this way, was pasted on to the leather sheet embroidered with tilla. As this low method of using one leather sheet for one piece of ornamentation work resulted in poor output some tilla saaz tried embroidering directly on the leather sheet. They could still not achieve the desired result. A master craftsman in okair saazi, ustaad saleh muhammad migrate to multan in 1940 from akora-khattak, found the basis of embroidered leather ornamentation much brisker in his adopted home then in his native akora-khattak in the nwfp. As a solution to thisProblem, an idea cross his mind which changed the fortune of the entire ornamentation business. A used a bundle of papers for engraving instant of using one piece of leather for one unit of ornamentation work. This new okair saazi technique has increased the production of ornamented leather tremendously and has attracted more people towards this crafts.
