The eight Millennium development Goals set at the United Nations conference represent the commitment by all countries to reduce poverty and hunger, to tackle ill health, gender equity, lack of education, lack of access to clean water, and environment degradation. Many low and middle-income countries are not on track to reach the public health targets set out in the Millennium Developments Goals (MGDs). To accelerate progress towards the MDGs the universities, healthcare professionals and Nations can play important roles.
